View over London from the southern end of Tower Bridge looking across at the City and one of my favourite buildings, the bullet-shaped ‘Gherkin’ (also known as the Erotic Gherkin or the Towering Innuendo due to its phallic appearance). It was designed by Norman Foster and the official name for it is the Swiss Re building at 30 St Mary Axe. It was complete in 2003 and opened in 2004. It houses offices and a broadcasting studio. It has also been called the Crystal Phallus, a pun on Crystal Palace.
